$250 Bank of America Checking / Savings Account Promo

read and submit comments for this post

This is one of the highest-dollar Bank of America promos that I've seen. But you'll have to be quick. It expires on October 31, 2006. Also, according to the small print, it's available only in states where Bank of America does not have a banking center network. So this will likely exclude most people. The link to the promo page is www.bankofamerica.com/pre250, and here are some of the details:
Open a personal checking account with a Bank of America Visa Check Card, and open a new Regular Savings account at the same time with a minimum opening deposit of $100, and you can get $250. You must open both eligible accounts together by October 31, 2006.

Just enter the offer code YA02 in your application to take advantage of this special promotion.

Below is some of the important small print:
This offer is available only for accounts opened online and in states where Bank of America does not have a banking center network. .... Your new personal checking account and new Regular Savings account must be opened at the same time to receive the $250. The opening deposit for a Bank of America MyAccess Checking account is $25, and for a Regular Savings account it is $100.

If you can't qualify for this one, there are still several $100 sign-up bonuses available at Bank of America. See this post for more information.

  • Is there any state BoA does not have a branch ?

  • Watchout! The offer code in this promotion page is YA02. However, when you click into "open an account now", the prefilled offer code is YAO2.

One is 'zero' and the other one is letter 'O'. I don't know which one is the correct one. If you are in the eligible state and would like to take advantage of this offer, you might want to confirm the offer code before opening the account.

  • I just chatted with a Bofa CSR.

The correct offer code is YAO2 not YA02.

The offer is available to people in the following states: Vermont, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Utah, Colorado or Idaho

  • Thanks for the info on the promo code and the eligible states. Glad to see several states are eligible.

  • Do you know if they do a hard or soft credit pull?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:36 AM, October 30, 2006

  • New customers typically get hit with a hard pull. See my previous post for more info.

  • I think BofA has a referral program. You may want to get a referral before signing up to get the most bonus money, no matter what state your in.

  • Here's the link for the Bank of America referrals:
    www.bankofamerica.com/referral

However, in the small print it says: "Not available with any other offer"

  • Do you know how long you have to keep the account open, before you can close out and still keep the bonus?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:43 AM, October 30, 2006

  • I opened one of B of A's past bonuses (I think I recall getting $100 or more for opening both a savings & checking account). As soon as I received the promo bonuses, I went to my branch and closed both accounts with no penalty whatsoever. Read all the small print and watch out for fees (i.e. make sure you keep the minimum amount in your accounts in order to avoid service charges).

  • A Hard pull on Credit History and no combination with Referral is a set back.. I think I will pass it if my credit score gets hit on...

  • I've signed up for this and received an email telling me, "We need more time to verify the information you provided us. We apologize for the delay."

We'll see how it goes. $250 certainly beats a free iPod Nano! I could get two iPods Nanos for this!

And I'm not too concerned about a pulled credit report because I don't plan to apply for any more credit for a while.

  • Please let us know how it goes. Hope they pay out the bonus without problems.

By Blogger Banking Guy, at 5:42 PM, October 31, 2006

  • My accounts came through and when I got my online banking working (I already had a BoA credit card, so the profiles had to be merged), I signed in and immediately saw that my check account's balance included the $250 bonus.

SWEET! Now I can buy a real iPod instead of a little iPod Nano.

  • I opened the checking and savings on the last day of the deal. This past week I closed the accounts and took the bonus out. The bonus was credited twice in my account so I ended up with $500 more! I wonder if that was an error on their part and if so, whether I will be getting a bill in the mail... :-))
